Malli Novitan sukkalehdestä ja langat Novitaa. Puikot 3mm. Raitalanka loppui ensimmäisen sukan jälkeen, joten ovat hieman eripariset.

I made these socks as a thank-you gift for an awesome teacher for a brilliant course. 
The pattern is from Novita's sock magazine, yarn is Novita 7 Brothers and needles were 3mm. I ran out of the stripy yarn after the first sock so they are a bit mismatched.

Regia Fluormania

Olen nähnyt monien käytävän Schachenmayr Regian Fluormania- lankaa ja päätin kokeilla sitä. Ostamani kerä on samanvahvuista kuin Novitan 7 veljestä, mutta 150 gramman kerässä lankaa on 375 metriä, kun 7 veljestä saman painoisessa kerässä on vain 300 metriä. Lanka tuntui hieman karheammalta kuin 7 veljestä, mutta värit ovat aivan hiukean kirkkaat. Ehkä jopa vähän liian ärtsyt minun makuuni.

I have seen a lot of people use Schachenmayr Regia Fluormania yarn and I wanted to try it myself. The skein I bought is the same weight as Novita's 7 Brothers, but in the 150 gram skein there was 375 meters of yarn, when the Brothers skein only has 300 meters.  The yarn felt a tiny bit rougher that 7 Brothers, but the colors are amazing. Maybe even a little too bright for me. 

En ole vielä kokeillut lankaa pelkästään, vaan yhdistin sen mustaan käyttäen Lauriina Lavin ohjetta (Lavin ohjeen löysin Facebookin Voihan villasukka- ryhmästä). Tuohon nimenomaiseen malliin olisi ehkä sopinut itsetraidoittuva lanka, jonka raidat ovat hieman kapeammat. Täytyy kokeilla vielä uudestaan Novitan raitalangalla.

I haven't tried the yarn on its own yet, but I combined it with black using Lauriina Lavi's pattern (which I found in Facebook's Voihan villasukka group). This particular pattern could maybe work better with narrower color stripes, I'll try again with Novita's strped yarn.

Koiran villapaita - Doggie sweater

Laitoin tämän kuvan Facebookin kettuterrieriryhmään ja sain sitä kautta useamman kyselyn villapaidan ohjeesta. Ohjeenhan löysin Yhteishyvän sivuilta, mutta muokkasin sitä kauluksen ja hieman hihojen osalta. Alla kääntämäni ohje omilla muttoksillani. 

I posted this picture to Facebook's smooth fox terrier group and got a few requests for the pattern. I found the pattern from the Finnish website Yhteishyvä. Below is my translation of the pattern with mo modifications on the collar and sleeves.

Dog sweater

I improvised the collar and wrote my version here. I used the S size. At least now Gretas (4 months) chest measures 45 cm.

Size: XS(S)M(L).

Dog measurements: chest circumference 34–40(42–48)50–56(58–64) cm

(the widest part of the chest, behind front paws)

back length 30(38)44(50) cm (from the withers (?) to base of he tail).

Yarn: Novita 7 Brothers 150(200)200(250) grams. Drops Karisma is the same Aran weight.

Needles: 40 cm circular needles No 4 (US size 6). DPN’s No 4 (US size 6)

Gauge: 18 stitches and 27 rounds stockinette = 10 cm

The sweater is knitted from the hem to collar.

The body

Cast on 17(17)17(17) stitches and  knit stockinette. At the same time, add 2 stitch on both edges first every round 12(12)18(20) times and then every other round 8(13)12(16) kertaa = 57(67)77(89) stitches. Make the stitch by picking up the “ladder” between stitches and knitting it on the right side  and purling on the wrong side. Turn the stitch while doing so, so you don’t have a gap there.

When you have added all the stitches and the piece measures 12(15)17(20) cm, add stitches  for the ribbing under the stomach as follows: on the right side, K1, add a stitch n purl (= purl the “ladder” between stitches turning it), knit 55(65)75(87), make 1 in purl, K1 and at the end of the round make 1 = 60(70)80(92) s.

Continue knitting in the round and add stitches to the ribbing as follows: K1, P1, K 55(65)75(87), P1, K1, add 1 in purl, P1 and add 1 stitch in purl = 62(72)82(94) s.

Knit 5(3)2(2) rounds in between and repeat the increases as follows: K1, P1, K 55(65)75(87), P1, K1, P1, K1 through the back loop ,P1 and make 1 in knit , P1 = 64(74)84(96) s. Continue the increases on both sides of the middle stitch of the ribbing every 4.(4.)3.(3.) round for 0(2)4(6) times = 64(78)92(108) s.

When you have knit in the round for about 5(6)8(10) cm, spread the ribbing to the “smooth” part by knitting 2 stitches more of ribbing each side of it. When you have knit in the round for about 6(7)9(11) cm, leave other stitches on a scrap yarn and continue knitting back and forth on the 15(19)23(27) stitches of the ribbing for the sleeves.

Knit the ribbing back and forth for 8(10)11(12) cm and leave the stitches on a scrap yarn/ spare needle. Knit the 49(59)69(81) stitches of the back back and forth for 7(9)10(11) cm. Continue knitting in the round with all the stitches and on the second round add for both sleeves 1P  = 66(80)94(110) stitches. After the sleeves, once you have knit 5(6)6(7) cm with all the stitches, make the collar.

Collar

Continue in K1,P1 ribbing for as long as you need the collar to be. I did about 6cm. Bind off loosely in ribbing.

Sleeves

Pick up 42(50)54(58) stitches on dpn’s. Knit K1, P1 ribbing in the round. When the sleeve measures 2 cm, decrease on the stomach side 2 stitches (K1, K2tog)Repeat the decrease every other round, until you have 24(30)34(36) stitches left. Knit until the sleeve measures about 14(17)20(23) cm or until you are happy with the length. Bind off loosely in ribbing.

Finishing off (This is the red ribbing on my sweater)

From the hem of the sweater, pick up 20 stitches per 10 cm and knit ribbing for about 3 cm. Bind off semi-firmly.

For the Pippi Longstocking pattern on my sweater, I made the pattern afterwards, imitating stitches.

Toisellekin äidille ja pojalle - For another mother and son

Toinen ystäväni tilasi minulta kettusukat pojalleen ja aloinkin heti työhön. Sukat valmistuivat vanhasta muistista nopeasti ja laitoin ne saman tien postiin. Edellisen lähetyksen kanssa posti kyllä kämmäsi. Olin laittanut pakettiin osoitteen selkeästi ja toiselle puolelle lähettäjän tiedot. Joku oli lukenut merkintäni vähän huolimattomasti ja lähettänyt paketin takaisin minulle. Onneksi postin virkailija oli asiallinen ja sain lähetettyä paketin uudelleen samaan hintaan. 

Another friend of mine ordered socks for her son, foxes this time. These came about quickly and I sent them. Last time the post office messed up my shipment, they accidentally sent it back to me. I hope this time things work out better. 

 Lisäsin pakettiin vielä yllätykseksi kirkkaanpunaiset villasukat ystävälleni, toivottavasti niistä pidetään.

I also sent her a pair of socks as a surprise, I hope she likes them.

Jälleen kerran paljon keskeneräisiä töitä ja vain vähän valmista.

Äidille ja pojalle - For a mother and a son

Ystäväni Heidi Kuistin kautta- blogista tilasi minulta sukat itselleen ja suloiselle pikku pojalleen. Hän lähetti minulle muutaman inspiraatiokuvan, mikä olikin hyvä, sillä luovuus ei täällä päässä oikein kukkinut.

Itselleen hän tilasi nappivarsisukat ja käytinkin niissä pohjana Novitan sukkalehden nappivarsisukkien mallia. Ainoastaan varren palmikko on päästäni, muuten speksit samat kuin lehdessä. Olin joku aika sitten tilannyt Etsystä puisia nappeja ihan muuta projektia varten. En valitettavasti muista enää myyjän nimeä, mutta kun Etsystä hakee wood buttons, niin eteen ilmestyy satoja vaihtoehtoja, kaikki hyvin edullisia. Päädyinkin käyttämään toisia nappeja siinä projektissa, joten puiset napit jäivät jemmaani. Lanka perinteisesti Novitan 7 veljestä ja puikot 3,5mm.

Vauvalle Heidi tilasi eläinsukat ja panda oli toivelistalla. Koska se inspiraatio oli hieman hukassa, tein pikkutyypille pandasukat. Vauvan sukkien koko on minusta hieman hankala määritellä, joten tein vähän reilut. Lankana Novita 7 veljstä (musta) ja Dropsin Karisma (valkoinen), puikot 3,5mm.

My friend Heidi (her beautiful blog is called Kuistin kautta, even if you don't speak Finnish, her pictures are to die for!) ordered a pair of sock both for herself and her son. She sent me a few inspiration pictures, which was brilliant b because I'm in a sock rut. 

She wanted button socks for herself and I used Novita's sock magazine pattern as a base. I improvised the cable pattern. I had ordered wooden buttons from Etsy for another project, but now I found them in my stash. I can't remember the seller I bought them from, but just search wood buttons on Etsy, and you'll find hundreds of affordable options. For the socks I used Novita's  veljestä (as always) and 3,5mm needles. 

For the bebe she wanted animal socks, preferably pandas. Thats what I made. I find it hard to guestimate the size of baby socks, so I made them a little big. They usually grow in to them. I used Novita's 7 veljestä (black) and Drops Karisma (white) and 3,5mm needles.   

Keskeneräisiä - Unfinnished

Paljon töitä on työn alla, mutta hieman hitaasti ne valmistuvat. Ehkäpä jo ensi viikolla minulla on jotain näytettävää...

I'm working on several projects at the same time, so nothing gets finished. Maybe next week I'll have something to show you...

Villapaita Gretalle - A sweater for Greta

Kesäkuussa syntyi pieni karvainen tyyppi, jonka lempipuuhaa tällä hetkellä on varpaiden pureskelu, syöminen ja nukkuminen. Heti pentu-uutisen kuultuani aloin neulomaan kaverille villapaitaa, sillä tiesin, että vatsansa tulee olemaan karvaton. Game of Thronesia lainatakseni: "Winter is coming."

A little dudette was born on June 9th. Her favorite hobbies as of now are toe-biting, eating and sleeping. As soon as I heard the news about the puppy, I started to knit a sweater for her. I knew her belly would be hairless and as they say in Game of Thrones: "Winter is coming."

Greta yhdeksän viikkoa / 9 weeks old

Löysin paidan ohjeen Yhteishyvän nettisivulta ja olin sille hihoja ja kaulusta lukuun ottamatta uskollinen. Koska kettuterrierit tunnetusti ovat melko särmikkäitä, vähän Peppi Pitkätossun tapaan, toimi inspiraationani luonnollisesti Pepin villapaita. Lankana 7 veljestä ja puikot 4mm.

I found the pattern for the sweater here (sorry, it's in Finnish) and I stayed mostly true to it. I improvised the sleeves and the collar. Smooth fox terriers are known to be feisty and brave, kind of like Pippi Longstocking, so naturally I used her sweater as my inspiration.  The yarn is Novita's 7 veljestä and the needles were 4mm.

Toistaiseksi paita on vielä ihan liian iso, mutta karvakaveri kasvaa hurjasti joka päivä. Pahoittelen huonolaatuista kuvaa, pimeässä on hankala kuvata tornadoa. 

So far the sweater is way too big, but she is growing every day. Sorry for the blurry picture, it's hard to photograph an tornado in the dark.

Kirjaimia - Letters

Lähipiirissäni on putkahdellut vauvoja kuin sieniä sateella ja päätin ilahduttaa heistä muutamia oman nimen alkukirjaimella. Ohjeen ja inspiraation näihin löysin Claire Garlandin Knit the Alphabet- kirjasta. Kirjaimiin on helppo hukuttaa jämälankoja ja ne valmistuvat nopeasti. Voi olla, että eräs pikkumies saa joululahjaksi aakkosia...

There has been a rain of babies recently among my friends and I decided to make the baby's initial for a few of them. I found the pattern and the inspiration for these in Claire Garland's book Knit the Alphabet. These are a great way to use up left over yarn and the knit up quickly. There may be some alphabets traveling with Santa for one little dude... 

Sukkia - Socks

Ystävän jalat palelivat kesällä helteestä huolimatta ja tilaus tuli vihreän kirjaville sukille. Facebookin Voihan villasukka- ryhmän seinällä tuli vastaan tuo varren kuvio ja päätin tehdä sillä koko sukan. Kantapää on tiimalasi, johon olen nyt ihastunut. Parasta siinä on se, että kantapään silmukoita ei tarvitse kaventaa pois, näin ollen kuviot eivät mene sekaisin. 

A friend of mine had cold feet (no pun intended) during the summer and she wanted green socks. I found the pattern from Facebook's Voihan villasukka- group and knit the whole sock with it. I used a shot row heel because it doesn't mess with my pattern.

Toiselle ystävälle tein Olgat syntymäpäivälahjaksi. Teen mieluiten vain varren Olga- kuviolla ja jalkaterän yksivärisellä langalla. Halusin myös kokeilla Novitan uutta raitalankaa ja siitä tein vain varret. Mietin vielä, millä värillä teen jalkaterän. 

For another friend I made Olga socks as a birthday present. I like to do the cuff with the Olga pattern and the feet with a solid color. I also wanted to try Novita's new striped yarn and made just the cuffs with it. Still deciding what color to make the feet with. 

Just a short translation of the Olga pattern for my English speaking readers. Please note that I do not own the rights to the pattern as it is not my own. 

1. Cast on 64 stitches (aran weight works well) and purl two rows. 16 stitches per needle.
2. 1st row: K2tog through the back, knit 5, YO, knit 2, YO, knit 5, K2tog. 
3. 2nd row: knit all stitches
4. Repeat these steps for as long as you would like. I usually decrease at about 10 cm's in on the knit row, the at 12 cm's and 17cm's and 20 cm's so that I have 48 stitches before the heel. 

Kesäkassi - Summer tote bag

Lomat on lomailtu ja töissäkin olen ehtinyt olla jo pari viikkoa. Hikinen ja kuuma kesä ei ainakaan minun tahmatassujani juurikaan innostanut kutomaan, joten nyt ilmojen viiletessä alkaa sekin maistua. 

Siellä täällä pitkin kesää olen kuitenkin virkannut jämälankojani isoäidinneliöiksi.  Kaikki langat ovat Novitan 7 veljestä tai muuta samanvahvuista ja ainoa kriteerini langoille oli yksivärisyys. En siis kelpuuttanut mukaan pätkävärjättyjä lankoja. Yritin myös tehdä joka toisen kerroksen vaalealla ja joka toisen tummalla värillä.  Uloin kerros kaikissa on mustaa. 

My vacation is over and I have already been working for two weeks. The sweaty summer didn't make me want to knit, but now the weather is starting to be more fall-like I'm knitting more. 

I've still been crocheting my left over yarns into granny squares. All the yarn is Novita's 7 veljestä or other aran weight wool mix. My only criteria was for the yarn to be solid color. I also tried to make every other round in a light color and every other in a dark one. The outer round is black.

Alun perin neliöistä oli tarkoitus tehdä peitto. Sitä mukaa, kun niitä alkoi kerääntyä, aloin mietimään neliöille muita käyttötarkoituksia. Löysin kaapin pohjalta muutaman kangaskassin ja päätin koristella niitä isoäidinneliöillä. Aika hyvin tuo Valintatalon logokin peittyy neliöiden alle. Neliöt kiinnitin harsimalla.

At first I was going to make a blanket out of the granny squares, but as they started piling up, I wanted to use them for something else. I found some reusable canvas grocery bags and decided to decorate them with the squares. I was able to cover the store logo pretty well. I just tacked the granny squares on the bag. 

Lukukausi saatellaan pian päätökseen ja tämäkin kutoja suuntaa kesälaitumille. Näillä näkymin myös blogi on kesälomalla elokuun puoliväliin saakka (ellei yllättäen inspiraatio iske ja jotain on pakko postata). As the semester is coming to a closet's time for this knitter to head off to the beach. The blog will be on summer holiday also, until mid-August (unless an inspiration strikes me...)

Sarjatuotantoa - Mass production

Välillä sitä jumiutuu neulomaan samoja juttuja aina vain uudestaan. Nyt jäin jumittamaan näihin kolmiosukkiin, raitasukkiin ja sydänsukkiin (ohje täällä). 

Kolmiosukissa lankana on Novitan 7 veljestä jämiä, puikot 3,5mm ja silmukoita 48. Kolmiot ovat leveimmältä kohdaltaan 3s ja kolmiorivien välissä on aina yksi kierros pohjaväriä.

Sometimes you just get stuck on the same things. This time I got stuck on these triangle socks, stiped socks and heart socks (pattern here). 

I used my stash yarn of Novita's 7 veljestä, 3,5mm needles and 48 stitches. The triangles are three stitches wide and after each triangle row there is a row of the main color. 

Näin jossain blogissa, saattoi olla Sort of Pink, raidallisten lasten sukkien kuvan ja inspiroiduin siitä. Lankana näissä on Novitan 7 veljestä (harmaa, musta ja punainen), Lidlin vauvalankaa (mintunvihreä) ja mahdollisesti vintagea Novitaa (keltainen). Valkoinen on Novitan Sukkista. Kaikki sukat on neulottu samalla kaavalla, 3,5mm puikot, 48 silmukkaa varressa, vahvistettu kantapää ja kantapään jälkeen 44 silmukkaa. 

I saw somewhere (maybe here) a picture of striped children's socks and was inspired. Here aswell, I used my stash, Novita 7 veljestä (gray, black, red), Lidl baby yarn (mint green) and possibly vintage Novita (yellow). The white is a yarn called Novita Sukkis. The socks are the same as always, 3,5mm needles, 48 stitches in the cuff, reinforced heel and 44 stitches after the heel. 

Sydänsukkia olen tehnyt aikaisemminkin ja niiden ohje löytyy täältä. Tällä kertaa en jatkanut kuviota jalkaterään asti. Lankana jälleen 7 veljestä, puikot 3,5mm. Mintunvihreä on Lidlin vauvalankaa ja valkoinen Dropsin Karismaa. 

I've made heart socks before and the pattern is here. This time I didn't continue the pattern to the foot. Once again I used 7 veljestä and 3,5mm needles. The mint green is Lidl's baby yarn and white is Drops Karisma.
